It's very easy to install (almost automatic) if you will use the StarGPS "trial" software to update the 497 controller instead of using the Meade software. The only thing "trial" about the software is that it slows down about half way through the update ---- to the same speed as the Meade software. ! It still updates faster than the Meade software and will apply the proper PATCH for your 497 controller.
Download SetupSP.exe which is the trial software it will go out on the internet and get the updates.

It will only do firmware updates. You still need the Meade software to upload comet-asteroid data, and tours.

I already updated to EG using the normal method, which i must say is slow, good thing you only need to do this once. Looks like this may be the last version for the old 497 anyway.
But I'm interested to see what the patch brings to the table..
