Using your iPhone or iPodTouch as a Remote Monitor new
      #3412871 - 10/26/09 08:33 PM

There is an iPhone app called ‘iCam’ that allows you to stream live video and audio to your iPhone or iPod Touch over WiFi, 3G, or EDGE. Your computer requires a program called ‘iCam Source’ which is available at no charge from the ‘iCam’ web site: http://skjm.com/icam/

I now can focus and align in real time (broadband ISP) wirelessly right at the scope and don’t require a special scope mounted monitor. A total of four cameras or websites can be sent using this program and anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch can watch if they have your ‘iCamSource’ user name and password.

The image is decent and the app will set you back $4.99.

Hi Don.
How much latency do you have? This may be a great way to remote observe. Whay is 'W3DAL'? I know I am always asking you these kind of questions.

Hi Joe

The latency depends on your broadband service. Mine has a 3500kbs upload bandwidth. I see very little delay in the image and the clarity is not bad for a 480-by-320-pixel resolution at 163 ppi iPhone screen.

The W3DAL is my ham radio call sign.

My broadband upload is only about 700kbs but for static views it's good. Motion is slow and jittery, but still usable. Setup is got to be the easiest system I've ever done. Install the free driver on your computer, pick your choice of cameras from the list, enter a username and password and click start. It shows a preview on the screen in a window that you can close and the camera is still working. On the iPhone, go to the app store, search icam and install, next open the app, enter your username and password and bingo, there the video is. I've got two cameras going now, pretty slick.
