If you just want to image solar system objects, you're better off with a Celestron Neximage or Toucam webcam. If you want to upgrade from there, then there are other options that have been discussed in various threads on this forum.

The SSIII has a CMOS sensor that isn't as sensitive as a CCD chip and tends not to produce very good results compared to cheap CCD-based webcams or other cams such as the Imaging Source cameras (starting at around $350).

The SSIII is not a bad camera by any means, just one that's never been adopted by enthusiastic planetary imagers due to the more preferable options out there that have shown proven results.

Thanks I guess a lesson learned. Well I will try it and see what I can do with it. I bought it off Astro mart from a guy for $140.00 if worse comes to worse I can resell it for $100.00.... LOL Who knows it may do just what I need it to do. I have a meade LPI and was not unhappy with the images I got from it so we will see. Thank you.

I picked up one of these last summer. Here is a link to the thread. I have not had a chance to use it that much, but I'm getting better at working with when I do use it.

Could someone with one of these please check to see what the shortest exposure possible is? And can WcCtrl get exposures shorter than that?

Thanks.
