Old data, new process. M78 - Reflection Nebula
      #3419205 - 10/29/09 09:50 PM

During the moonful nights, what's a guy to do? I've picked up some new tips and tricks, and took my time. I'm sure with more time on this the dust could be brought out more (and in the full sized TIFF it is a bit deeper), so later on I'll add or reshoot this gem!

Comments and suggestions appreciated!!

Nice process! The hi-res is worth the click. The dusty region is very nice.

Thanks Adam!! I'm pretty sure a couple of more hours would make the dust a lot easier to work, and I won't have to do as much noise reduction (detail loss).. Overall though, I'm pretty darn happy with the results.

I think you definitely succeeded in the reprocess , lots of detail and dusty bits.

Well done id say , I havent taken a good shot of this one yet so im hoping this season it will happen and it looks like I will need a lot of subs.

Thanks Erik!! I don't know if longer subs would help, or if it's just total integration time that needs to be increased. But it's a very dim target. Even at ISO1600 5 minutes I couldn't see much neb in the raw frames.
And dark sky is a must I'm sure.

Great shot Gary. This is a tough target for sure.
Im sure if you shot this with the RC you would get some great closeup detail in the nebula . then you could blend it in with this image and make a high resolution M78 widefield.

Thanks Sal! I am contemplating a run on this target with the RC, but blending in with this one? I'll have to wait and see what that entails as I've never combined two different focal lengths.

I do it alot with new data from the RC. I am able to blend the two image scales together using photoshop transformations

Bumble Bee makes tuna right?

Great image! Very ethereal and nicely processed.

Thanks Mike, I'm not sure any of my images have ever been rated 'ethereal'.

Great image. Many think this is an easy target, however it is not. You did well!

templec, Many thanks!! The easiest part was the capture, after that it was a bit of a struggle. But the capture wasn't all that easy either as there is no real indication of nebulosity, so you're running on faith a lot...
