It appears from pictures that the the tripod that comes with the CGE has a pier at the top that houses electronic connections, so how does one attach the mount head to a permanent pier on my porch if it does not have the electronics?
Also, how much does the mount head weigh?
Thanks, Don

The electronics "pier" is just a cylinder. It attaches to the tripod head, but you can attach it to a pier plate also. It's the same as a G11 but the opposite sex.

The head weighs about 45 lbs. The electronics pier is very light, guess at maybe 3 lbs.
Are you thinking of mounting just the head and repackaging the electronics? If so, then you'd just have to mimic the top of the electronics cylinder. Like John said it's like a losmandy. If I recall, the Cylinder ID is 5.5" (I'd have to measure again to be sure), with a little over 1" of clear bore where the head fits in, and 3 equally spaced clearance holes on the OD for the 3/8"-16 bolts that hold the head.

Don,
I'm not sure I understand the question. Here is an image showing the CGE base (not on the pier)...

I think the lower orange portion is to adapt to the electroncs pier and could be done without if you are machining your own plate.
