Film user introducing ap to digital user
      #3421629 - 10/31/09 10:35 AM

I know very little about doing astrophotography with a DSLR, since I only shoot film.
A friend of mine has a Canon SDII (un-modded of course), and wants to try some shots through my f/4 SN-8.
I will have it polar aligned, and show him how to manually guide, but I know there are issues with subs, lights and darks.
I tried to explain why they were necessary, but every time I do, it seems like my digital friends get offended.

I'm going to suggest M-42 for his first target. He has a cable release, and will have a T-mount.
Any advice I can offer about exposure times, subs, lights, darks, and ISO settings?

It's probably a misunderstanding. It's definitely a DSLR, that much I know.

Ok, this makes sense. Pretty fancy camera, he should do well with an sn8.

The core of m42 will blow out very quickly with a dslr. Maybe go with 30 sec exposures at iso 800 in raw mode.
