Hi All,
Purchased a set of Fujinon 16x70 FMT SX for $750.
I returned this pair when I unpacked them from the FEDEX box and found obvious discoloration on the inside of the right objective (photo attached).
I contacted Fujinon to ask what they found with this set of 16x70 I returned two weeks ago, and was informed some desiccant inside probably became loose during shipping and fell on the objective.
So I received a replacement set of 16x70's, the vendor was very helpful. I unpacked these Fujinon binos from the FEDEX box and noticed a sizable black speck inside the right eyepiece (photo attached).
So I have received a second set of binos, also with an internal "blemish". Do I live with a new set of $750 binos that has a potential issue that might get worse with time, or return these as well?
I contacted the vendor about the second set of binos, and he was extremely surprised since he had personally inspected this second set of Fujinon before shipping it out.
Did FEDEX strike again?
Phil

Return 'em. Completely unacceptable - and highly unusual.

I would NOT live with an internal blemish in a pair of premium priced NEW binoculars. You have every right to expect a pair of binoculars purchased new to be free of internal speck even if they are a pair of $75 Chinese 15X70s.
You should get them exchanged. If I were the vendor I would send out a replacement pair before waiting for your return, make sure we inspect the replacement pair before shipping to you, the send a UPS call tag to pick up the blem.

Regarding replacement of the second set of Fujinon binos, the vendor is out of 16x70 FMT SX. He contacted Fujinon to see if Fujinon can directly ship me a replacement set, Fujinon informed the vendor THEY are out of 16x70, these are on back order. So the vendor wants to have Fujinon repair the first set of binos and purge with Nitrogen, and return the repaired ones to me. Frustrating, since I have lost the whole month of October in the meantime. Phil

In that case is it possible to ask for a refund? Why should you wait for a pair to be refurbed when you paid for new pair? Usually factory refurbished samples are offered with a substantial discount.
I checked two on-line dealers I've ordered from in the past. Both of them show they have this model in stock, at a lower price than the $750 you paid. One of them have free UPS ground shipping. Only takes a phone call to verify they are indeed in stock.
I was especially pleased with the service received from a binocular specialty dealer in the midwest. PM me if you like contact.
I also see used FMT SX in excellent condition show up often. I like the old style with the yellow rings around the EPs better anyway.

Phil, I'm sorry to hear of your problems. Two bad samples would seem extraordinary. I agree with Erik, you shouldn't have to be put into the position of waiting indefinitely for your vendor to get new stock or waiting for a repair from Fujinon.
I'd ask for a return/refund and make your purchase from one of the other well regarded vendors that have current stock and save up to $100. in the deal as well. Adorama or Eagle Optics come to mind. Both offer free shipping. I've had good luck with purchases from both vendors.
I hope this all works out well for you in the end.

I'm not sure I would see this as shipping damage.
If the objective caps were on the first pair then they almost assuredly left the dealer like that, but probably not the factory.
The second pair had some debris inside (probably from the factory, but possibly not) that it shouldn't have, and although it is a bummer (and I feel your pain) it's probably good that it showed up right away.
This is not like Fujinon at all.
Since you are "double down" on issues with this purchase, ask your dealer if he will order you a new set, and let you use these until they come in. I sort of suspect that they may have been in other's hands before, but that's a different subject ........... in any case, I feel he should at least provide that option (admittedly with the caveat that they be returned as you received them) and on his nickle this time.
Sorry this happened, and if it's any consolation ..... you made an excellent choice, this is very unusual, and they are truly great binos that (once you get squared away) will make this all a "no biggie memory" ..... honest.
Good luck with this and best regards,
Gary
