Does anybody know whether the eyepiece adapter that Televue sells for the Questar is compatible with older Questars- specifically those from the 1960's that were sold with the Erfle oculars instead of Brandons? I'm a Questar newbie...

Hi Brian,
If you use the QUESTAR on it's forkmount, you can normally insert any 1 1/4" eyepiece. My experience is that they will stay put, so I never bother screwing in an adapter with a setscrew.
Clear skies,
Erik

Hard to see how the ocular would fall out even if you had the scope pointed at the zenith. I know you can do this with a Questar, but it isn't a particularly comfortable viewing position. I think the Erfles have 1-3/16 x 32 threads rather than the 1.26" threads that the Brandons have. So, the eyepiece adapter tube on these older models is a little narrower. I think that both the earlier and later eyepiece adapter tubes have .925" threads on the side of the control box. Just wondering if any Questar users out there know this for a fact.

Yes, the Televue adapter works on my '68 for both the top eyepiece and rear axial ports. You just have to unscrew and remove the eyepiece barrel in order to use the Televue adapter.

Brian,
I have a 1958 model and TV 1.25" adapter works great.

Brian,
Why don't you get the adapter that Questar will sell you. It is a little better quality and it only costs $82. It is really the part that Q started installing in all Qs in 1995. It accepts all Brandons and normal 1.25" EPs. You can replace it yourself by just unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one.
Luck, Bill
