RA motor on my Astro-3 mount.
      #3423548 - 11/01/09 10:59 AM Attachment (6 downloads)

Hello!
I just wanna share with you guys and gals that i have completed my RA motorization of my mount! What a luxury to not having to turn the RA knob manually, specially on this instable mount, the smallest touch induces vibrations...
I use an nice small 12v 1,8 degree stepper-motor that i found in an old external 3,5"floppy drive and some gears that i found in a printer. I also ordered a stepper motor controller with basic functions like speed and direction control from http://home.cogeco.ca/~rpaisley4/Bipolar.html
Last night i fine-tuned the motion needed for the stars and the moon. Next up is to find a box to put the circuit in.

I proudly demonstrated it to my wife but she just looked at me in a funny way and shook her head... but i think she is slowly accepting my new hobby, i think i'm getting some eye-pieces from her this x-mas!

Clear skies everyone!
