Planetary Imaging with DSLR new
      #3423017 - 11/01/09 01:15 AM

I would like to do some planetary imaging with my 40D. Have ran a few searches and can not come up with any threads on this subject. Perhaps because it is not possible/advisable??

If anyone out there has experience in this area I would appreciate some advice and the benefit of your experience.

I have been using Nebulosity for DSO and wide field imaging and it works fine. However I was thinking that for planetary work it would be nice to reduce the file size a bit. But can't see where Neb. can do this. Is this correct? Are there other programs out there that will accomplish this?

I have many different FR and sampling combinations available to me so this isn't an issue. Just want to use the 40D instead of having to purchase another piece of hardware (solar system video cam).

Thanks,

John

Hi Sal,
I did look at your Gallery. You do very nice work! I did not see any details however regarding your imaging with your Canon DSLR. Could you give me some info. on that pleasae? Particularly I am looking for software (freeware hopefully) to control the camera. Would like to try multiple frame (smaller) capture and process it in something like Registrax. I could use Nebulosity and just take a large number of frames then sort through them but the capture and processing time with those large images would be prohibitive I think. So Live View or video?

I appreciate your help.

John
