Ok so after reading all the threads on here recently about them, I went ahead and ordered an Astronomik CLS filter. I got it in the other day and havent yet used it on imaging, but before I hook up my DSLR and all my gear I went to look through it visually, all the stars have a blue/green hue - is that normal? I dont want to waste my time with hours of imaging if everything is going to turn out looking like the Hulk. Is it just observing through the CLS that turns out like this or will my images do the same?

I get the same effects with my UHC filter, which is more or less the same as the CLS but for visual use.
The reason for this is that there are large gaps in the visible spectrum when looking trough these filters, giving you the green/blue hues you describe. These gaps are where the emission lines for various man made lights are at. The parts that the filter does let trough are where the interesting emission lines are - these are the colors of the many nebula out there.
This also means that for galaxies it might not be as useful, and completely pointless for daylight photography.

Anna, set a custom white balance in your camera with the CLS filter attached. Read the camera manual on how to do this, you only need to do this once and use it each time you use the filter. With raws you don't really need to do this but it does avoid the weird color effect when looking at the camera LCD and subs.

Warren - Will do. I was more wondering if this was normal through the filter. I guess it is supposed to be used mainly for imaging and not visual observation then, which is fine. I just, for some reason, wasnt expecting everything to be that color when I looked through it, now I will know, will set the white balance and be good to go :-)

Ya totally normal , the CWB is easily applied in a program like DSS.

The CLS filter works quite well, and has much better (raw) color balance than an IDAS LPS filter, at least for a modded camera. Here are unprocessed shots taken under bright moonlight with the CLS and IDAS-LPS filters:
CLS
IDAS
These filters work a lot better when the moon is not so bright, of course.
