Here are 2 sketches of Jupiter. In the first sketch, festoons are visible in the EZ. I observed the festoons crossing the EZ from the NTB to the STB. The festoons also appeared at regular intervals across the globe.
Sketch 2 shows the dark spot visible in the STRz with a dark patch up above it in the STZ. David Sabia's post alerted me to this marking and I finally got a chance to see it. Below are the details on each sketch. South is at the top of the sketches.

Very nice Jupiter sketches plenty of detail, next year Jupiter will be higher in the sky and you should be able to get even better views.

Dave, Yes those are rotating rings.

Those are beautiful, detailed sketches, Dean. I appreciate the one from Oct 26 in particular, in order to confirm my observation of the same evening. Using a 70mm ED refractor, I had quite a more limited, gross view than yours, but I did make note of a dark spot visible in the STRz. Nice to see it wasn't my imagination.

Petries3, Thank you for your kind words. On the Solar System Imaging + Processing Forum there is a image by Freddy Willems that shows the dark spot as well. Jupiter October 27, 2009 - Hawaii
I plan to observe Jupiter on Friday night and maybe, if I am lucky, the dark spot.

Excellent observations of Jupiter showing a good amount of detail. Your 10" Cave Newtonian is beautiful to look at as well as view through. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

The seeing on both of those evenings wasn't the best, but I was grateful to observe since fog has prevented me from viewing more lately. Jupiter continues to fascinate me with it's complex ever changing features
My telescope will soon be upgraded with a new secondary mirror and spider from Protostar. It will be interesting to see if I notice an improvement in the performance.
I look forward to viewing Mars as well this year. Mars was one of the objects that got me hooked on astronomy years ago.

Nice sketches of Jupiters disk Dean. Happy to see you also have a sketch of the dark spot in the STRZ. I've been able to get one other view of it in very poor seeing conditions.

Thank you John. I have seen the dark spot twice now and will continue to observe it for any changes. In addition to this spot I also observed a another interesting spot which borders the NEB and EQZ. It's a little larger than the STRz spot. In addition, this spot has a bluish green tint and seems to associated with a festoon around it . I have made a sketch and will post it when I can. I have read on this forum of other people seeing this object and referring to it as a blue festoon. The spot transited the meridian at 5:05 U.T. on 10/31/09. When it transited I could still make out the STRz spot near the limb rotating out of view. Thank you for bringing the spot in the STRz to my attention. It looks like I will have clear skies for a while to view these markings again and I will be using the information on your fine website.
