HELP! Alignment & Any Info!
      #3424123 - 11/01/09 05:01 PM

Hi,

I'm new to CN and fairly new to astronomy. I recently got an older model CAT, a TOWA design made for Oshman's (now out of business I presume). Anyways, I for the life of me cannot seem to get the secondary mirror situated properly. I have some questions about this type of telescope. It's a 76x600 F/7.9 scope, it's got a stationary primary mirror and a (as far as I can tell) flat corrector / flat secondary mirror. Now, does the corrector plate have to be in a specific alignment with the primary, or vise versa? And as for offsetting the secondary, I can't seem to get it right. I read an article by Peter Kennett & Danny "Ross" Lunsford about collimating and realigning the mirrors but I don't have access to a Cheshire and only have a sight cap made from an lousy H6mm EP. It's a cool little scope and even in semi-decent (part of the mirror not showing in secondary) the views were good enough. I know it can do much more when it's all setup right! Can anyone help me out? I'd really appreciate any help! I can post pictures if need also - HELP ME! Thanks!

Rob - Crying for help fixing this scope... LOL =)

Welcome to Cloudy Nights! It shouldn't be long before someone has the information to help you... Although that isn't the most common telescope out there!

HA! I figured just as much. I tracked down a person who sold the same (but newer) model of scope on ebay, and they're sending me a copy of the manual (not sure how much info it will have!). I hope I can get this baby to optimum performance soon! Otherwise I'll be buying a larger new telescope (I got the fever pretty quickly). Thanks - glad to be a part of the community. I'll post as much as I can! HEEELLLLP!! =)

Well no need to help now, haha, I got it fixed and collimated as best as I can. Pretty sharp views now. I pat myself on the back for getting it working great :-)
