Currently ~Mv 6.5 [AAVSO] and rising here's my unfiltered CCD shot of field on Oct 11 that shows it grossly brighter - inset 1s exp that shows the defocusing effect of NIR radiation via camera lens

here's the spectrum of variable omi Cet [Mira] extending into near-IR and for comparison three other autumn M-type bright stars in alpha Cet, beta Peg, beta And with alpha PsA [A-type] very low in my skies - hence strong A/a/B Telliric bands as marked

Very interesting!
My last 3 visual obs of Mira have been 6.0 (Oct 16th), 5.0 (Oct 23rd) and 4.0 (Oct 30th) - and still a fortnight to the predicted date of maximum.
