Well I just installed the new Fits Liberator as was suggested in my other thread. It still does not work failing with this error msg: 'Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.'
That's what it tells me each time I try to open a FITS file. That's when I use Photoshop CS4-64 it. When I use the 32 bit version of CS4 though, life is good.
I'm using Windows7 Pro, 64-bit. I can right click on the icon for CS4-64, and run as an Administrator (why doesn't it default to that?) but that has no effect.
Still havent' figured out how to run in the XP mode.

Hi Paul,
Have you tried to point Fits Liberator to "open with" Adobe Photoshop? I mean, right click your new fits liberator, click "opens with" then click Photoshop CSxx?
I feel stupid saying it to a computer geek but I misss simple stuff all the time like this and I'm a comp geek too lol... Anyway, good luck with it and thanks for updating the topic!!

It's not designed to work that way - liberator is designed to be able to tell photohop what to do with a file type. It isn't a program that you can open like you described.

Actually I did get fits too open with Photoshop this way at one point. This was a couple years back and after a fits update, but when I would try to open the fits file from the desktop it would not open it and with a similar error.. I did what I recomended and it worked for me in Photoshop CS :-) I have CS2 these days and no problems... I think I'll avoid the Windows 7 thing for now. Well, it was worth a mention.

I am curious then, if your fits files have a "known file extension" or are the files associated with some other program on your computer? Right now my fits files "open with" nebulosity so they sport the Nebulosity icon. They used to be the little feathered icon for Photoshop but it must have changed when I installed Nebulosity... Signed, just some curious guy:-p If I'm covering redundant ground just slap me around and send me on my way, I've had worse lol!

I didnt realize you had CS4 Paul, I should have looked closer.
It says on the ESO spacetelescope site that it wont work yet with CS4 64 bit.
That error message wreaks of "file extension" problems at first glance, my bad:-)
Anyway, hope you get it soon so we can all see the results.
