Hi, I found ash dome use rib to clip sheets and tighten with screws on top&donw side. is there any welding works for ash dome? it looks not stable if only link with the small rib gap...
and is every sheet between each two ribs separately? or one big sheet beyond some ribs?

I have an older one. 1968 model that I refurbed. I don't know if or how much they changed the design over the years. Don't see why they would.
Each panel is seperate. They are about 2' at the bottom (2 ribs) and whatever they need to be at the top to meet the shutter opening frame. The only place there are screws or bolts holding the panels is around the bottom where they meet the ring.
where the joints are in the panels there are designated spots where you insert a U shaped clip. This stiffens the whole thing up very nicely, coupled with the screws and bolts in the ring.
There are maybe a dozen bolts securing the shutter frame and then maybe a dozen more for the shutter tracks.
There's no welding for you to do. It's very straight forward engineering. I see no reason mine won't be around another 40 years.
I'm not a vendor for Ash. I just own one.

Not through the dome. I need to reseal the bottom of the walls though. I get a ltttle poodle if we get a lot of rain.

what is the roller matieral? It must be very durable for turning decades under a heavy weight.

thanks!Scott! your dome looks very nice! it is just what I want.
if the sheets are only clips by the ribs to endure high speed wind,the design is so smart. I am afraid they will be torn off like banana 
and ash dome only has verical roller without horizonal ones to constrain like fiberglass domes.
is each sheet have a 3D ball shape or just 2D curve like cylinder side surface???? the latter will be easy to make.
I am looking your post and please help further, Scott!

That is a beautiful setup!
And you are only 70 miles from my location. 
Do you attend the CAS @ Perkins? I am going to start going there with a co-worker who has also been bitten by the Astronomy bug.

The rollers are like heavy duty garage door wheels that are bolted to the top of the wall. The track is curved to match the radius of the ring so the wheels are in the channel and cand't lift off. The wheels are about 2' apart.
I'd say a 2d pattern would be the template. The curve of the sphere is so gradual that I'm not sure if it's a consideration.
As far as it ripping apart like a banana, if the wind is that strong I'll be flying away in the whole observatory like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.

Hi, what are those sheets and ribs material? I got two information: someone say they are made from aluminium 3003, but some files say it is Galvalume,which should be steel base and coated with Aluminium and Zinc.
does somebody know about this?
