and of course it is clear We can't image through our scopes so why not image them instead? Gosh it's great having an observatory even if I only get to use it 4 times a year.

Chris; Beautiful shot of your open observatory! What camera & setting did you use? I'd like to get a shot of mine.

Ain't it the truth! Couple of the half dozen or so good nights a year we get around here, and it's a full moon...

I used my DSLR a Canon XTI. The lens was the stock 18-55mm at F/5.6. The exposure was 30 seconds on a tripod. Let me know if you need any help Carol.

Thanks! I actually have some I like better - I had gotten better at evenly illuminating the dome. But I noticed this one had a meteor shooting through it so it won by default.
I need to try again in a month or so - catch Orion behind the dome.

I've got the red-rope lighting in mine; and I just got a new red light lamp that I can shine up on the scope. I'll see what I can do; I'd like to get a neat Constellation, like Orion also in the sky!

I'm waiting for a dark night to try to get a picture of Orion in the background. Clouds have rolled in now so no more fun for tonight.

I should be able to get Orion, as the North & South walls are low. A good part of my 16" won't show up good in the red light, with the black shroud. But I'm like you, clouded out.
My CSC is fibbing.

No night time Observatory photos for me. My camera only has a 10-second timer on it; no way to take longer exposures.

Give it a shot Carol. I'm sure if you have just the right amount of light on your scope 10 seconds will be fine.

I'll give it a try; but don't think it will turn out very good. Never even thought of a "Bulb" setting when I bought this camera.

Some of mine were done with a 10s exposure. If you can set the ISO higher, then do that, it will help. Anyway, you should be able to get something reasonable with a 10s exposure - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I didn't mention the fact that I shot my image at ISO 200. At ISO 800 the image would have been much "brighter" I'm sure.
