Crater Darwin, misty moon new
      #3422270 - 10/31/09 05:35 PM Attachment (72 downloads)

The atmosphere is quity misty this night. Nevertheless I tried to sketch Darwin near the terminator. The instrument was a 120/600 refractor @ 112x, I used a strong green filter to supress the false color of the instrument.

Uwe,

Very nice sketch. I'm assuming that north is up and that is crater Cruger with the dark floor at the top of Darwin. You captured that irregular floor of Darwin superbly.

Frank

Uwe

Nice field sketch of Darwin and Cruger. I just realized looking at your sketch that I was observing the terminators edge through my Nexstar 5i with the public outside a hall with a large costume party tonight and looking right at Darwin and Cruger. I have probably sketched them on the terminator before yet never in close detail. Nice to see this from you.
It inspires me to go back out now and try to capture it in a close-up to compare but the clouds keep coming and going.

Thanks for posting your sketch image in the moment!

Mark

@all: Thank you for your comments!
@Frank: Yes, north ist up and east is left. Is missed to give the arrows, sorry.
The main crater is Darwin, the dark patch in the north is Crüger B and the large dark area in the sout is called Lamarck, which is hard to see as a real crater because of its' demolition. In this light you see there is a crater, unfortunately without any detail.

Uwe, your beautifully shadowed view of Darwin is precisely captured. I really like your superb graphite sketches. Wonderful work.
