Horsehead and Flame w/ Astronomik 13nm Ha Filter new
      #3424239 - 11/01/09 06:14 PM Attachment (33 downloads)

Hi All,
I'm really loving this Ha filter! I couldn't resist when I went outside last night and noticed Orion up over my neighbors tree around midnight last night. I quickly set up the scope and camera and got a little over three hours of Ha data. Thanks for looking.
Rudy

I have the same filter and love it for my DSLR work.
With my CCD's however it does not get as sharp of details as the 6nm NB Astronomik set..

Great image.Other than some field rotation it looks perfect.
I personaly prefer changing the image to greyscale. You get a lot better contrast when you do that too...
Just my preference though.

Nice one!

That filter is giving you a lot of detail in your shots and I love mine and being able to shoot with a moon out.

I agree that the greyscale shows more contrast , that Ha data will go really well with some RGB when you get a chance.

Unfortunately our eyes are lousy at seeing contrast in Red or in Blue. He could of course use ha=Green as in the Hubble palette, or he could simply use masking and make it a false RGB until he gets the opportunity to capture a few minutes of star colors. Rudy, here is your same image with contrast boosted by making bright reds pink (adding a bit of white to the brightest portions), stars white, and the sky background a greenish blue:

Basically a nice image to play with endlessly... I found that pure red comes out even worse/flatter in prints than on a monitor, hence when I tried to get a decent print of one of my first Ha captures I resorted to this kind of false color. It's basically a nice capture, well worthy of caressing

Very nice image Rudy, the grayscale does show the detail a bit better. Really neat what Samir did with it too!

Hi Samir,
I like what you did with my image. I haven't played with the data too much, but am waiting until I can acquire some RGB data to combine with it. Seems like there's a lot of potential in this one.
Erik and Gary,
Thank you for your comments.
