Hello- I have a question about what would make a good alt-az mount for a TOA-130? Is the DM6 about as good as it gets? I am picking up the scope(second hand) tmw. The Stellarvue TSL6 looks like a user-friendly tripod- is it study enough? I have been looking through a lot of posts here- I have not seen much about which wooden tripods are most sturdy- I would imagine all the better ones are pretty good. I am trying to keep costs down as much as possible, and I am very inclined towards the alt-az mounts, having owned a TV 101 on a Gibralter mount before, as well as some dobs. I never thought I would actually spring for a five inch refractor, but I ended up buying a A&M 80/600 TMB with the lomo lens secondhand, and that doomed me. I have never seen that kind of image quality- I hope this scope will give me the same with the aperture advantage as well. But somehow I don't think I will be taking this scope outside with one hand, so any tripod or mount advice will be much appreciated-

A fellow club member has his 130TOA on a DM6 and he is very happy with the combo. He used to use it with a G11 but wanted simplicity.

Sounds to me like the DM6 is a very nice unit- I will probably go with the Stellarvue tripod- it looks like it folds up with not much fuss and has a bit of extension on top. At least that's the plan right now. I am really anxious to try this scope out, but I know the right mount is crucial to long-term satisfaction. Thanks for the info-

Adam,
Welcome to CN, BTW!
To "pile on" with the others, the DM6 is as good as it gets for something as big and heavy as the TOA 130.
I think the views will be quite spectacular, to say the least and the Stellarvue tripod should work fine.

In addition to the DM tripod and those that have been mentioned in this thread, one other tripod option is the AP adjustible wood tripod. You may want to go to the DiscMounts website and peruse the customer galleries and look at the various scope/mount/tripod combinations others are using.

Also consider the Berlebach Planet Tripod. I just got one, and it's built like a brick shi-house.
Consider new Iptron minitower pro for mount as well. Should be available in two weeks, according to Ioptron usa.

I play with my TOA-150 on a DM-6 mount and frequently use the tall DM tripod. I found that I had to make a tripod extension (10" was enough) and increased the length of the leg spreaders to (iirc) 19" to achieve better stability.
I think the Meade tripod from the LX200/8 would be fine for the TOA-130 at realistic altaz magnifications Be aware that this would need an adapter to take you from the 1/2-13 (m) to the 3/8-16 thread used on the DM-6.
