Anyone have any experience using the 8SE tube on the the Astro-Tech Voyager mount or any Celeston 8" OTA on that mount?

According to the AT website, the 8SE tube is at about 50% payload capacity for that mount. It's also got a vixen-style dovetail.

The only problem I can see is the clearance - You might not be able to reach the zenith with some eyepieces or perhaps not reach it at all.

What do you plan on using it for?

I have a NexStar 8SE which already has a compatible dovetail. Just thinking of a plop it down and observe secondary mount.

It will be fine on the Voyager. A few folks around here mount a C8 on a Voyager. Many of them also like me use a heavier tripod under the Voyager head (like the CG-5 steel tripod). I mount either a C6 or my TMB115 refractor. The refractor is 15lbs plus the dovetail and rings (~3lbs). I also have a 16" pier extension between the Voyager head and the tripod (clearance for the longer refractor).

The shorter and lighter C8 will be no problem for the stock Voyager although many folks also add some weight to the tripod spreader and put anti vibration pads under the tripod legs in addition to improving on the stock focuser on the C8 (add a Feathertouch SCT microfocuser or a motorized focuser for example).

Thanks. I thought it would be strong enough. What is the focal ratio of your TMB 115?

F7 ... 810mm, and the tube length is something like 33" when in use.

Herewith is my C8 mounted on my Voyager. I use a Gitzo 1415 tripod (specially adapted) when I want to travel light. When I want good stability I use a CG-5 tripod with 2” stainless steel legs.
