Orion BinoViewer
      #3427317 - 11/03/09 12:20 PM

So I am looking at this Binoviewer from Orion..
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=optical_aids/~product_id=20271
And I hear that Bino's have a hard time on Newtoniain(Dob) scopes. I called Orion support and asked if I would need anything extra for this, and they stated it comes with the 2x Barlow and everything I need is in the package.

Does anyone have experince with this device and how it may function on an Orion 12" Dob?

Or if I need additional accessories at the time of purchase?

Thanx in advance.

Sorry I took so long to respond but I just saw this thread.

I have the Orion binoviewer with the 2X screw-in barlow/OCA. It does NOT come to focus in my f/4.9, 1587mm. focal length, 12.5 inch Portaball. There isn't enough in-focus. So I asked around in this forum, and EdZ and Rick Rian teamed up to suggest an inexpensive solution. I got a simple extension tube, which I screw into the bottom of my 1.25 inch adaptor. The 2X OCA/barlow is screwed into the extension tube. Together that produces enough in-focus. It also produces a very high magnification, so wide angle viewing is out. Since I have a big binocular for wide angle, low power viewing, I use the binoviewer for high power stuff. If you want to binoview at low magnifications, there are OCAs, from Siebert, that may do the job for you, but I think that the Orion is not the best BV for wide angle viewing. For a wide FOV I think you need to look Denks, Earthwins, or TVs.

Oberwerk BT100 45° binocular
Orion binoviewer + ScopeStuff extender (so it focuses at f/4.9)
