Baader Moon & Skyglow vs Lumicon Deep Sky Filter
      #3427458 - 11/03/09 01:28 PM

What is the difference between these 2 filters in an 18" dob or anyscope for that matter?

The Baader M&SG is not an aggressive LP filter & won't turn stars blue/green like a broadband will .
Here's a review on the Baader .

It really seems to act more like a fine ND filter . If that makes sense . I have one & it does tend to tighten up the view on stars , if you will . As I recall it did a real nice job on M45 . Sometimes I forget that I even have it . I'll have to make a point to get it out & use it in comparo's more often .

The Baader does a great job on planets, haven't found any other good uses for it.

Unfortunately, if you are dealing with high-pressure sodium lighting, it will seriously contaminate the Baader filter due to the broadness of the ugly HP Sodium emission band. This is where the Lumicon Deep-sky works somewhat better, as it blocks more of that ugly band than the Baader Moon and Skyglow does, giving you somewhat more contrast and lower skyglow. Clear skies to you.
