help ,how to slave my Observatorie to lx200gps new
      #3426884 - 11/03/09 05:49 AM

Hi Chaps,
i have managed to automate my dome useing the velleman board
and the levesdome driver, after a little tweeking with the commutator plate and settings, i am able to input any value 0/360deg sending the dome in any direction and dome rotation will stop within 1to3 degrees of the input value.
My next step is to slave the dome to the scopes movement.
And this is were i need some advice,
1.what software do i use to control the scopes movement/tracking?,
2. what is best start up procedure?(is it:-connect all cables to laptop, then power up dome , then scope power and then finally the software programes?).

Any advice would be warmly welcomed
regards
ian

Is it LesveDome software being used with the Velleman board?

I'm planning on using LesveDome for my observatory and it is my understanding that any ASCOM compliant dome controller will work.

Hi starman
i have the dome automation running smoothly via manual switches and via the lesvedome program on my laptop,so i now need to get some software that will point the scope and slave the dome to that movement.

regards
ian

POTH is designed for that. I use POTH and the latest LX200 drivers from the ASCOM site. I also use Stellarium with POTH to give me complete control of the system. I use the system remotely with the ability to PARK the scope and UN-PARK it next session.
Stellarium also has a nifty little network protocol system that allows you to run Stellarium "inside" and it will slave the scope through POTH at the dome.
So far I have not hurt the budget as all of this software mentions is priced right, FREE
Good Luck
Joe
