Hi Folks
Can anyway tell me if they ever got of the ground ? I think they were to be a pair of 30mm odd HA filters mounted on a pair of Canon IS Binos,i can remember seeing adverts for them a couple of years ago but never ever heard anything about them,so they may not have made it into production, having said that the adverts had a clear price attached.
Brian.

I believe only one was made for Markus Ludes. They used SM-40 etalons and some customized blocking filter.

Hi Brian, We did make them at Coronado, way back in the day. I would say there are probably 5 or so sets out there. They were the 40mm etalons with a 40mm blocking filter. They were difficult because the etalons had to be tuned alike. I don't think Coronado is making them anymore. Good luck finding a pair. Hi Brian, They were pretty heavy. I would say that they were fun because they were easy to take a look and see whats going on. But to do any long viewing you would have wanted a mount. It was also difficult to find the sun sometimes. For me it would have made more sense to get a larger filter on a scope or double stack filter on a scope than 2 etalons on a pair of binoculars. The great thing is there are lots of options out there. Thanks, Rikki

Ok Thanks Rikki
It was just a thought, and was wondering about them. I guess it is too much of a long shot for a current owner of a pair to chip-in.

Brian --
Markus also put a pair of 60mm etalons on a Kowa Highlander.
But as Rikki said, I think you'd be better off with the resolution of a 90mm or 100mm filter, with a binoviewer behind it to get the two-eyed experience.

I guess this filter can be used in front of a camera lens for snapshot with DSLR?

Oldfield --
You'd still need to fit the blockers into the system somewhere. Otherwise all the harmonic frequencies from the etalon would swamp the h-alpha signal. I'm not sure how that worked on Markus' Highlanders.
Brian --
I hear you, except for the weight. Have you tried any of the white-light solar binos? (I found the magnification too low, but that would be a problem with the Canon IS's too. Others appear to like them.)
Cheers, -- Jeff.

Mmmmm thats a good point you make Jeff as i do like their White-Light Binos so perhaps then i really would enjoy the HA option, wonder where/or who would have a pair that i could possibly try ?.

I guess the blocker is embedded? Since you couldn't insert anything at the eyepiece and of the bino?

Probably. It's certainly going to drive the cost up as they have to be full aperture at the front. But there's probably not much choice -- even the interchangeable eyepiece binoculars tend to have precious little backfocus between the prisms and the focal plane.

I really wish some vendors can come up with a H-alpha filter set which can be used with a camera lens, by then it would be really really convenient.
Let say to have the blocker installed just before the CCD/CMOS, or to be like a 1.4x or 2x teleconvertor, etc.

Aw c'mon, it's so easy to hang a DSLR on the back of a scope which has been fitted with a Ha filter set ... if that's what you really want to do. I've tried it and it works - after a fashion, the IR blocking filter results in poor sensitivity, and a DSLR is a very poor substitute for a web cam type device when it comes to "lucky imaging" as well as contributing its own problems in terms of weight, mirror slap & shutter induced vibration.
