I just won one on ebay, 76.2mm x 1250mm, I should pick it up tomorrow, I am all excited now, but I think this will be my last major purchase this side of Christmas, more reports when I get my hands on it and can see what condition its in. Grendel

Congrats! you've got yourself a very fine scope! This one is identical to my OKKK. Does it come with the manual?

OK I couldnt wait, halfway home I stopped at the services, and got the camera out, poor things in a bit of a sorry state, most of the important stuff is there, the finder has a stripped thread on the eyepiece end, the tripod spreader is missing, and the worst crime was they took the objective cell off one end instead of unscrewing the erecting prism to get it in the box. the pluses, the mount looks solid, the objective looks in good condition, there is an extra 4mm ortho eyepiece additional to what should be there. I hope to put it all together over the next couple of days and make sure it all works, Friday is public observing so I will take it and my other two recent purchases along for evaluation. Grendel

I have fixed the stripped thread on the finder using one thickness of masking tape, I think I should have a spare prinz tripod tray available (or some tray anyway) It does seem to not have a solar diagonal and the screens for solar projection, not a loss as I have other scopes I use for solar, there is a nice metal housed moon filter on one eyepiece, at least this scope rounds off my collection of .965 eyepieces, and also from the looks of it I may be able to make a 1 1/4" adaptor that will screw onto the back - Must check if thats a T2 thread? - no it looks like the thread for attaching stuff to the focuser is a 36mm thread. grendel

There is also a H.W.English catalog that came with it - maybe the original seller, its post 1971 as it mentions decimal currency, it also mentions VAT- that puts it a couple of years later at 1973, so I would guess about 1975 maybe as a date for the scope.

Teflon tape works very well for stripped threads on a finder. Looks great, i would love to see more of the mount? And the visual back? Good luck with the new addition.

I have a big meeting at work tomorrow (a whole day dedicated to health and safety)so I wont be able to tinker at lunch time, the wife works late tomorrow so I will have a couple of hours to play before I have to hide my newest acquisition, so I'll hopefully get some pics then. Grendel

well I had just about got the objective fitted when the wife phoned, wanting picking up early, so I didnt even get half an hour (having waited for the daughter to go out first) but I had a quick look at the mount and this thing doesnt seem to rotate all the way, the locking screws look like they will foul on the slow motion gears, I will take it to work tomorrow and see if I can figure it out, maybe the locking bolts are swapped, one did appear slightly longer. It does however seem very sturdy, and the polar axis snugs into the main vertical shaft when its stored. polar alignment might be fun as the axis has no markings, but I will have polaris available, fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow, I will dry run assemble at lunch time, the wooden box just fits in the back of my Volvo side to side, with about 1/4" clearance at the end. I found the problem with the mount, the main shaft was mounted into the head backwards, the dec axis only had about 270 degrees of rotation before the lock knob binds on the worm drive, but the way round it was mounted meant that this was when the mounting rings were underneath the axis, so the scope would have had to point through the mount to fit, I reversed this part and now everything works fine, the only place the scope cant travel is the place you dont want it to travel anyway, where it would foul the mount. Wow nice find Peter. That will clean up really well. Classic colors black mount white scope, my kind of combo. Is that a compression visual back like the swifts(taks) have?
