I think im turning or am a eyepiece junkie!
In the last few days i picked up another 3 eyepieces!
I blame it on the weather nothing but clouds around here! 
I recieved all really good deals, so if i do not like them i should be able to get my money back!
I did let a meade 14mm 4000 UWA slip thru my fingers! 
So i ended up pouncing on these!
Anyways i cant wait to recieve these and test them out!
Anyone used these in a F5.9?

From what i read the:
-17mm TV is a fantastic plossl!
-40mm 30000 im a bit worried i heard blackout issues
the TV 40mm might be better?
-8.8mm meade I hear nothing good things!
As you can tell i seem to like the older eyepieces instead of the newer ones!
I see you have the 14mm meade 4000 UWA, how do you like it?

You're really better off staying away from 40mm Plossls altogether . You get no more TFOV from a 40mm than you get from a 32mm . While a 32mm Plossl will yield a 50 to 52 degree AFOV , the 40mms' only yield a 42 or 43 degree AFOV . There is no sense in lowering the magnification without gaining in the FOV . ...Also the 40mm Plossls have so much eye relief that the exit pupil is difficult to hold onto , therefor , "Blackouts" . To go 40mm effectively , you need to go 2 inch .

I can relate to feeling like an eyepiece junkie. I have since changed to larger cases than these and added a few eyepieces, but the set-up is similar in the new cases.
My regular eyepieces of choice for a field session are Televue Radians 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, Televue Panoptics 15mm, 19mm, 22mm, 24mm, 27mm, 35mm, and 41mm, and this year's aquisition a Televue Ethos 10mm. I still have almost every eyepiece I have owned including various plossls, generic eyepieces that came with a telescope purchase, and even five .965" diameter eyepieces from my Tasco 9TE refractor I stil have kicking around. I just don`t have any reason to get rid of most of my old astro gear, and for the moment still have every scope I have owned as well. It`s too bad I don`t have the room for all of it here at home though- that`s where friends with spare room come in handy.

I can relate to this . I really don't buy stuff to sell it & end up hanging on to everything . Oh ! with one exception .......The 40mm Plossl .

Tony, I have both the 17mm and the 8.8mm and think you will love them both.
I wish that 14mm you let slip through your fingers would have ended up in my ep case.

I never understand the point of collecting. If I don't use it, it gets sold. I have 13 eyepieces currently. At the height of eyepiece buying I had 15. In 2 weeks I sold 5 eyepieces and purchased 3 to replace the 5 I sold. Is this my final eyepiece selection, I can't say for sure but I doubt I will have more than 14 Eyepieces.
I agree with Starrancher 40 MM 1.25" ep's are a waste. I even think a 55MM plossl is too much. I like my 36 MM Hyperion with a 42-43 MM field stop it is one of the largest FOV's in a 2" eyepiece.

i stayed away from the 40mm for a while but i could not resist the price $29 can. I agree with you starrancher but maybe they are good in certain scopes!
I will compare it to my 32mm old TV!
I will let it go if i really do not like it!
My eyepiece count is 10 right now and i think thats way too many! But eventually i think i will pick up more.

Both I guess, comparing and collecting. The only EP's I've ever directly sold were a pair of X-cels, everything else I still have with me (see some in my sig. line). And you're so right, good EP's are hard to let go.
Some people collect cars or paintings or stamps/coins, scopes, jewelry or whatever floats their boat; EP's are my thing right now, they're a joy to own and use at the same time and I'm thankful that there's a dedicated forum for it like what we have here.
You're most probably on the path to collecting too, because why else would you want to have those classic TV plossls when you know well that the Hyperion 8-24mm zoom that you now own covers most of them in terms of focal lenght (like the TV17). Right?

The 17mm is for my "collection" of TV old plossls!
I really enjoy my smoothsides!
When i recieve my new eyepiece i will do comparisons and most likely sell a few!
So far i sold a,
-8mm hyperion (8mm setting on the hyperion zoom is just about the same! I liked the zoom a bit better, smaller fov thou in the zoom)
-6.3mm orion highlight (zero eyerelief)
-12.5mm orion sirius (just ok)
-10mm skywatcher super plossl (no so great)
-25mm skywatcher super plossl (was a nice eyepiece but the 26mm TV was better)
-I was going to sell the 20mm TV plossl (the hyperion zoom put up the same image as the TV a couple of times!)
I will do some more comparisons!

That 40mm 3000 series Meade plossl is a nice eyepiece. Not the best I have, but a really nice one. In fact, I have the entire 3000 series set. It's in the photo below. Somewhere.

the TV smoothies seem to be really great in all aspects, i really like the contrast in them! On a very nice clear night i will do a comparison with all my eyepieces! Im curious how th zoom stacks up? So far what ive seen the zoom gets a A+.

Thanks! I have the entire 3000 series set, 40, 25, 16, 9.5, 6.7, and 5. I don't know why they did not offer a 32mm or 20mm. I also have the entire 4000 series set from the same time period. The 3000's are nice, but not quite as nice as the 4000's. But of course, at the time they were considered as the "budget" alternative to the 4000 series.

I recieve the meade 40mm 3000 and the meade 8.8mm 4000 UWA still waiting for the 17mm TV!
1st the 40mm meade 3000 Japan, well i just could not resist the cost $$ so i jumped at the opportunity! I wasn't giving this EP much of a chance, i was questioning myself why i bought this eyepiece, a 40mm with a narrow FOV!
Well it arrived and i must say its in near new condition!
I used it on a few DSO and Jupiter and i must say i was really impressed! It puts up a razor sharp image to the edge of the FOV and the blackouts are not that bad! You do have to hover over the eyepiece about 1/2" or so!
I wonder if there are any eyeguard extenders similar to what Tele Vue made for a 1.25" eyepiece? It would work wonders for this little EP. Overall i rate this guy a 8/10.
Very Very Happy with it.
2nd is the 8.8mm Meade 4000 UWA, well for owners of this eyepiece know when i say this one is a keeper!
I love how you place your eye to the eyecup and the image is there just perfect!
I would say you see 90 percent of the FOV (84 degree AFOV)without peering or looking around the corner which i dont like doing!
I had the best view to date with this eyepiece of M42/M43 it just looked stunning!! I spent a couple of min. just staring in amazement! Cant wait to use it again! I think this is a gem! Love it! I give it 10/10!

My 56mm Meade Series 4000 Plossl is the Pleiades king!
In the TV-102 it throws up a nice 3.3 degree TFOV at 15x.
In the TEC 140 it yields a vast 2.8 degree TFOV at 17.5x.
It's the pits under light polluted skies, but in a nice dark place like the Four Corners region of New Mexico, it's wonderful.
