Info Needed On Weights new
      #3427829 - 11/03/09 04:35 PM

Does anyone make any weights for a CGEM mount that are smaller than the 11 and 17 lb ones???

I want to mount my camera directly to the mount (sans OTA) until I decide on an OTA but the 11 LB weight is too much to balance. I am not sure what it will take to balance it but 11 is way too much.

Any suggestions???

I have this7.5 lb counter weight and it works on the CGEM perfectly. It may come with a plastic insert to make it fit on the sirius mount, but that insert is easily removed.

If this is still too heavy then try these counterweights

When the load gets light enough on a bigger EQ mount it is often run without any counterweight at all, or just the shaft. I saw a CG5 on a G11 without weights and without shaft. Just the clutch pressure is enough for that little tube.

Load it up and see how it holds, but keep your hands ready to grab and save as you put the combo in different positions to test whether it can in fact run without counterweights.

Pick up a dumbell weight at Walmart for a couple of bucks.

It need some weight, not sure how much. With my Nikon D90 on the mount it is heavy with the RA clutch loose. I guess I need to figure out how much it will take to balance.
