Meade originally planned to market it in the US, but didn't. It's now sold by several different companies. It's a triplet APO made in China, so not the same as an AR5...

Here is a poor picture of an outing from about three weeks ago. I apologize for the quality but I think it deserves a showing here.

Front, Televue 101 on a G-11, TEC 160 on a G-11, My 6"f/12 on it's CGE and Ziggy943's 6" f/17.5 D&G on his AP900. Remember when star parties use to be all big CAT's?

Nice setup.

How does your VMC110L preform visually? The one I checked out at a dealer left a lot to be desired.

I'm okay with it for what I use it for- a guidescope. It's not intended to be used for observing in daylight, so if your impression was made in that scenario its not surprising that it didn't make a great impression. Considering what it cost, it does pretty well. It can't take high power very well, and there is some image shift and mirror flop. For $300 I wasn't expecting much, and it has exceeded my expectations for a $300 scope. I don't believe that these are made by Vixen nor are they up to the company's usual standards. The box mine arrived in said "Made in China", so I assume that they are just branded by Vixen. Poor manufacturing quality control might explain why some people like this scope and others do not. Would I recommend it to someone else as a guidescope? Probably not...stick with a short tube achromat. The mirror flop can be a little frustrating and there is no way to lock it. As an inexpensive starter scope on an alt-az for someone getting into the hobby, maybe.

Phil,

Great set-up! I'm kinda partial to SV scopes myself too. Anyway... (1) please describe the saddle and doveplate design for the SV-115EDT and SV-70R that you are using, and (2) how is the balance on the MG with everything hanging off one side of the mount? Thanks.
