It would seem to be trailed star exposures. I can see a bright start (Jupiter) with four trails on one side.

All the trails are the same length and direction, so I think the people who said that are correct.

Even with a tracking platform of some discription, you do need to properly align it in order to have stellar images show up as points and not trails.

I will try the cardboard trick maybe that will remedy the problem. I am not using the refractor on my mount yet. I do not have a piggyback to mount it with yet.

Well I thought meade shipped a 10 inch with a lxd75. It does not make sense that they would sell a scope and mount that would break because the scope is too heavy. Check it out!

Regardless, it seems we have drifted off topic.

I wish you good luck with the ten inch. The problem is that manufacturers tend to overload their mounts. Meade is not alone in this. I will say that when you load a mount to the upper end of its capacity and then try to do photography you're in for frustrating experiences.

Here is an image I took during the day. Tell me if you see any aberrations. Also, figured out how to enable mirror lockup.

There are no obvious aberrations though there is a slight depth of field thing going on with the close up bushes that are a tad out of focus. But that's normal and not an issue for a scope that is normally observing at infinity.

You can however have internal reflection problems with cameras, eyepieces, etc. on stellar objects that you won't see on terrestrial objects.

For what it's worth, I think there are "shakedown issues" relating to the actual operation of the mount that you need to go through, I already provided a list. I think you are right to suspect that the mount is the problem. But it may be a question of operating procedures and a checklist, not an actual defect in the mount. Can't say.

I did type out a list however, in a previous post in this thread, which is a pretty good German equatorial list of things to double check when the mount is acting persnickety.

The images suggest that you have to do some very careful alignment of all components, the star is stigmatic which means that the OG is not squared on to the optical axis, also the color being blue and red shows that the OG is not fully corrected for chromatic aberration, this happens with cheap and cheerful refractor optics.

Alright, please give me your analysis of this image. I believe this image to be higher quality than the previous ones. The photo was taken three nights ago of the moon.
