I will soon be retrofitting a 10" R.F. Royce conical mirror into a 10" dobsonian. The only addition the retrofit requires is a 4.5" mounting plate in the center of the existing mirror cell. However, I do have a couple of questions:
1.) What material should I use for the plate?
2.) Is it OK to have the mirror back in direct contact with the plate, or should I place something in between?
Right now I'm planning to use an aluminum or steel plate, and have the mirror back in direct contact with it, with a spring on the underside of the mounting bolt in accordance with the mounting instructions on Royce's website. However, I'm looking for suggestions from anyone who has experience mounting one of these.

Nobody? Well, it seems a little trial and error might be in order. Based on how the existing mirror is mounted in the scope, my method will be something of an improvement.

Hello, I would highly recommend a minimum of a 3 point system of some sort rather than direct mounting which will chose it's own 3 points and they likely will not be at 120 degrees around the disc.
What every you chose, just make sure that they can adjust to lay flat on the back of the mirrors surface so as not to cause a point load.
Best Regards,
Preston
