I'm expecting delivery of a new C8 this week... and am wondering if there's any accessories I need beyond what I've planned on? I'm planning on: a Flex Dew Shield, heater strip, and a Lymax Cat Cooler. I have a good TeleVue 1.25" diagonal... is there any value in a 2" visual back/diagonal on the C8's??? (I have good 2" diagonals... also Burgess/TMB 30mm/40mm 2" eyepieces- I would just need a 2" visual back). Would I need a focal reducer to take full advantage of the 2" setup? Thanks for any advice.
edit: A set of Bob's Knobs will be ordered when I confirm the screws in the new scope. I consider them manditory!

The focal reducer won't buy you much extra (if anything at all) if you already have a 40mm 2" eyepiece.
If you already have the diagonal though, I would recommend that you do invest in the adapter to use it and your 2" eyepieces if you want to do any lower power work.
If you don't already have one, the best SCT accessory is a good observer's chair. Yes, it works with other scopes TOO!!!

I DO NOT see the need for the Cat Cooler...at least until you figure out that you actually need it...
The cooling time for an 8" scope is not overly long just sticking it outside for an hour should be enough under most circumstances....
Agree about the chair...and not for my back or legs...but for my eyes. I just see better PERIOD ! with the chair..

This is a first, Eddgie has been quicker than Bob to suggest the chair to a new SCT user!!!
I agree that with 2" EP, he will already have the widest FOV you can have with a 8" SCT but i still like to use a focal reducer with a SCT because it flattens the field of view. I find it more pleasant. I did not like to screw and unscrew the focal reducer however, i then bought a Denk powerswitch.
The chair is a must, a red flashlight. If you live in a place with cold weather, i found the smartcase II quite useful when the temperature goes below -10°C, it keeps your HC warm and it does not become sluggish (if you have electornics with your scope).
The cooler would not be on my list with a 8" SCT, it cools down in 1 hour and less, only when it is -20°C and below do i need to keep it for two hours.
I also like having a good finder scope, The SV 50, when used with good EPs, also makes for a wide field scope on your SCT without adding too much weight.
Have fun

There is absolutely no need for a cat cooler... as long as you have a fan installed in it.

Well, I don't believe the new C8's come with fan's in them! Might be a project fer' down the road... have to see how it cools. A C-8 shouldn't be too bad from what I understand.
I'll have to check out what mounting options are for a finder. I do have a couple of 50mm finders I'm not currently using. The two mounts I'm planning on using it on are either my Vixen Polaris GP or a mod'ed iOptron MiniTower I'm waiting on from Steve at Trapezium. When I'm using it on the M/T, I could probably be fine with just a red dot finder.
edit: Hmmm... I just realized (reading down in the Nexstar forum) that the C8 on a Vixen Polaris would be an overload on the mount.. good thing I've got the M/T coming! Didn't even think about it overloading the Vixen...
