M1 HaRRGB reprocess
      #3429531 - 11/04/09 04:22 PM

I finally got around to taking some Ha data for this and I pluged it in using the Starizona method #1 but I was a little dissapointed , not the pop I was hoping for and for some reason when I used the Method #2 like I usually do it made the whole picture very green when I pasted the HaR to the red channel.

20 5min RGB , 10 8min Ha(13nm astronomik filter) ISO 800 stacked in DSS then adjusted in PS CS2 with a large crop. Canon 400D(modded) , Orion Atlas mount and the scope is a Celestron 8 SCT with a .63 focal reducer(FL 1280) and a Orion ED80 refractor as a guide scope.

Erik, I've had the same issue when trying to use Starizona's methods. What did you end up doing to add the Ha to you RGB data?

Great detail and stars. You've done as good a job collimating your SCT as you did with the processing. Any tips your collimation method? Whatever you're doing is working.

Thanks Scott , Gary , Adam , Mike

Scott - I winded up making a HaR like they recommend and then making that a Luminosity layer at 40% and then boosting the colors and doing some adjustment curves , I have had good luck with there method #2 with emission nebulas and Ha data blends.

Gary - I have a larger version on my Flickr page in my signature.

Adam - I havent collimated my scope once and it is a late 90s C8 , im sure it needs to be done and I think the fact that I did a big crop on this one and I use the star visibility PS plug in at 60% opacity that I got from the astro plug in group on Yahoo.

It's a very good shot Erik. The stars are lovely, and the Crab is clear and detailed. Just like to see, as I think you mentioned, the reds pop a bit more in the nebula.

Erik, what did you use to register the Ha frame with the RGB frame? This is where my HaRGB stacking is falling apart at the moment. My Ha is rotated slightly from my RGB and I'm having a heck of a time getting the two lined up and registered with one another.

Nice work Erik. I think this target needs more aperture to get that pop you're looking for but you definitely got good details.

Thanks Nick , Scott , Tom

Scott - I just did a free transform in Photoshop , it is a real pain but if you set the layers in Difference or Exclusion and zoom in it makes it easier.

I would love to have a program like Registar but it is so expencive im not sure ill ever be able to afford it.

Thanks Sal , Javier

I have some Ha data for other targets I need to combine , I read how Robert Gendler blends them on his website and that sounds better then what I did so well see how it works.
