Mars 3 Nov 2009 @ 10:58UT
      #3430125 - 11/04/09 11:02 PM Attachment (39 downloads)

Mars Nov 3 2009 10:58UT CM 282 D=8"

Imaged with C14 at f/25 with DMK21BF04. Resampled 1.6x. Seeing was fair to good but never long enough to get enough frames for a good result. Should have imaged longer as these were only 1minute avi's at 30fps for red & green and 15fps for blue. So I ended up with only 370 frames r&g and 200 for blue. Seeing artifact in the n pole area I guess, as it shows up with minimal processing of the red channel.

Nice Glenn !
Gives me hope for the next imaging project.
You use a 2.5 X barlow ? That resampleing really looks good for that many frames stacked.

Very very nice Glenn. Perhaps I should say I can see Huygens and make a lot of people mad. But great detail and colors. Looks like seeing will have me shut down for at least 5 days or a week.

Huygens is there all right, if you look carefully.

Wow you guys are getting such good images I'm getting jealous!

Am I correct in remembering that Mars will reach 14.1" this January? I can't wait to capture it then, and I can't wait to see your images Glenn!

Maybe I'll setup and turn in early tonight, see if I can get something like what you have captured

Glenn, awesome image size! I usually go 90sec per channel, but can you go 2min or more and align to the surface features? That would give a ton more frames to work with

Steve

Thanks guys!

Steve - with Mars this small maybe 6 minutes total is possible if you align on the CM. I'd have to calculate that. But 1 minute per channel is not enough in less than optimal seeing, I only kept about 20% of the frames, and even in those there were some fuzzed out blobs.

I think Damian Peach said in this month's S&T that for Mars he shoots 2 mins each R and G and 3 mins B. That surprised me, but if it works for him I'm sure I can live with it!

Great result despite the seeing. Looks like a cloud bank or frontal line or something starting to come down from the NPC.
