Jupiter, Nov 3. new
      #3426086 - 11/02/09 07:10 PM Attachment (62 downloads)

Hi all.

Another patch of good seeing last night, although conditions were a little breezy.

It's almost time to turn my attention to Mars, but I still can't resist capturing videos of Jupiter while it's still 'riding high'.

The planet was at 75 degrees altitude during this capture, and measures 41".

Sadly, no GRS in this. But still plenty to see!

Captured with C9.25, DMK 21AF04, 3x Televue barlow, Astrodon Series-I filters.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks guys.

I pretty much use the 3x for all my planetary imaging. It's ideal for almost all seeing conditions at my current location.

If the seeing drops off a little, then I back off to a 2.5x Powermate.

I do own a 4x Powermate, but I have yet to encounter conditions which would justify its use. The evening this image was captured went close, though. Just not excellent seeing, which would justify the increased focal length and image scale.

It's also easier to keep Jupiter on the screen during capture with the 3x than it is with a 4x. My mount isn't aligned accurately enough, so I'd spend too much time fiddling with the hand control rather than changing filters and adjusting gain, focus etc etc

I know how to drift align, I just couldn't be bothered every time I set up! (LOL)

I'll get a permanent set-up one of these days.

Cheers.

Matt, Stunning detail especially this late in the Jupiter season! Amazing shot for a 9.25" scope. Thanks for posting it

Looks really Great Matt.
Nice detail, and high in the sky there in downunder.
Cloudy and rainy here in Hawaii, hope to get another session with Jupiter before it disapears to low in the West here.
