Hi Carlo,

Good to read you here...

May I suggest that you post the serials, so that we can guess...?
Also, does the lens cell have collimation screws?
Cheers,

Max

Hi Max!

My tube doesn't have collimating cell. Its serial number is 202A009. The focuser is 1.25". Any idea of its age?

Ciao, Carlo

Hi Carlo,

I guess the serial is written "202A 009", right?

My own reading would be: Kind #2 - Year #2002 - Serial #9.
This on the basis of other serials I know. Maybe others may correct me.
But, as far as I am concerned, I would say a 2002 OTA (also corroborated by the lack of collimation).

Hope it helps.
Ciao

Max

Thanks Max,

I am pretty sure the tube has been made before 2002, first of all because it comes with the Vixen Super Polaris Mount, replaced by the Great Polaris. The name "SuperPolaris" appears also on the tube metal label.

Ciao, Carlo

By the way, serial number does not contain spaces.

Carlo,

If I am not mistaken, the Super Polaris was still in production in 2002... maybe someone else could help here...

In any case, the important thing is that your telescope delivers good images... What I am sure it does.

Cheers,
Max

I think the scope is out of the 90s. I am fairly certain the SP had given way to the GP by the dawn of the new century. Well now I am sure it was long gone by 2000. I am looking at a 1996 Sky and Tel and there is an Adorama ad that lists the Celestron Great Polaris C102. And most everyone knows those Celestron scopes were made by Vixen.

Hi,

Don't know what to say, but apparently this guy got a 2002 Super Polaris...

I guess SP and GP were coexisting for a number of years...

Thanks Nippon, Thanks Max

mine was just curiosity, as I am not interested in its economical value or in selling at the moment. The tube works pretty well, very comfortable at medium magnification power ( very nice with the GO Baader 12.5) but still enjoyable with its Vixen Ortho 5mm (0.96). I really like also the mount even if it has oscillations at high power for few seconds... due to the weight and lenght of the tube, in any case more than enough for my visual use.

The only part I really dislike is the Vixen aluminium tripod I had bought with the telescope.
