Takahashi 120 v Skywatcher 120ED

I believe both scopes use FPL-53 glass so it would be very interesting to compare the doublet to the triplet.

I cannot speak about the comparison above, but.....
I had an Orion ED100 with FPL53 glass. The views were great and well corrected. The freedom from false color was about equivalent to my Tak FCT76 as well as the TV102.

So I bought a new TAK TSA102....why do that? Not sure why, but I wanted one. A comparison between the TSA 102 and the ED100 showed me quite clearly how much better the TSA was - tighter, smaller and brighter star images as well as a noticeable increase in faintest stars seen and clearly seen better color correction. I would imagine that the TSA120 vs. Skywatcher 120 ED would yield similar results.

At least the comparison validated my impulsive purchase.

I agree.

xmm... compared mercedes with volkswagen? very, very interestingly
imo mechanics and optics on this both is not comparable, as so, as they prices...

True enough. The number of elements is probably not the most significant difference between those two. To see the difference between a doublet and a triplet it would make more sense to compare the Chinese doublet to one of the many Chinese 115mm FPL-53 triplets available.

The Tak TSA-120 has just come out, so no user reports yet.
Certainly no analytical tests to compare.
The TSA-102 is better represented and more quantitative data is available.
Best examples of the 120ED doublet show it compares very favorably. High Strehl ratio and basically as "apo" at visual wavelengths.
