gary,
i was laughing about your "good to be canadian" part.
believe it or not, we DO have square drive screws, but they are hidden in the philips design called Combo:

at a casual glance, they look like philips heads.
you are right, square drive rules...

Yes, I saw those when I lived in the States. There was a specialty woodworking shop near the S&T offices that carried them. I have to admit I did a little dance of joy when I stumbled across them.
