I realize that there may be few M809 Mak Cass out there, but, I would be interested in what mounts are being employed. When I get my M809 I plan on using the Discmount DM 6 with the Davis Stanford Folding Pier. I like the ease of setup and enjoy not requiring battery power since I use the Sky Commander to hop around the sky.
Certainly would enjoy hearing all comments.
Clear skies to all

I know my IM 715 is itsy bitsy compared to your IM 809, but I originally had 715 installed on a CG-5 goto, and although it worked fine, it did shake easily with every touch or blown wind. I couldn't tell whether the CG-5 was straining under the load, since it's a noisy mount anyway.
I've used the Mak on my DM-6 with good success. Initially the scope's narrow field didn't make it easy to follow objects, but I eventually learned how to gently guide the 715 on the DM-6.
My G-11 is perfect for the job, there's nothing more to say in that regard.

Thanks Steve to your reply. I was a little concerned on the M809 due to the weight factor. I have had about 30lbs on the dm 6 without a problem ...my concern lies with mounting the M809 on to the saddle of the DM 6. True I am not dead yet but lifting a 24 lb scope that does not have a top handle may be clumbsy. I am trying to stay with the DM 6setup since I breakdown after every session and I once had a G-11 tripod and its weight had made that process a real lifting problem and bring it back into the garage from my driveway! As far as the steady views on the Mak Cass I use 30mm plus EP to attempt to gain as much wide view as possible. Howard

I use a home built (*not by me*) mount for mine.
I uses a 9 1/4 RA gear with 1 3/8" steel shaft for the polar axis and a 1 1/8" steel shaft on the DEC.
It came with 8" tube rings and it has an odd-ball mounting plate with a few hole threaded into it.
It could use a GOTO capability but I've never been too hobbled by their lack, especially with the two very nice setting circles
Here is a link to a photo of it.

Howard,
I mount my M809 on an Orion Atlas Go-to, which carries the scope plus Intes Micro dew shield, Telrad, and 50 mm finder very solidly. The dew shield probably does increase the lever arm a wee bit. Vibrations on focusing are negligible. I mount the MK66 on the LXD75 which is also very solid. Since I have the Atlas mount, I have not tried to mount the M809 on the LXD75.

Hi Howard,
Do you have a garage you can use to store the scope and mount if it were on wheels?

Hi Steve; In Florida the garage creates alot of heat so the scopes are stored inside the house. Cooling the mak cass is not a major issue here in Florida Howard

Thanks to all tha t replied to my concerns. My situation is that I have to mount and then dismount the M809....I feel that the weight should not be an issue if I am able to sort of craddle the scope in both arms and use a small step stool which places me higher on the saddle plate of the dm6. Any thoughts Howard and thanks

Hi Howard,
If you are debating getting a GEM, setting up and tearing down will get old, fast. I'd definately get some wheels under the mount, similar to the JMI or Scopebuggy,so that you can at least roll it to your viewing area. If security is not an issue, you could leave the scope set up in the garage during the cooler seasons of the year and easily roll the scope out every night.
Is there a space between the Losmandy mounting plate and the OTA so that you could get some rings arount the OTA? If that's possible, putting a handle on the scope would be a very easy process.

Hi John; What size rings did you get for the M809...where did you buy them and what was the cost. Did your scope come with the Losmandy Dovetail plate attached to the scope??? Thanks Howard L

The scope came with rings furnished by the shop and its own plate made for a GEM. The plate on scope is rather odd. Its underside is the same curve as the OTA, and would use bolts to fasten it to the mount. No real advantage there.
