Second that. Perhaps the most important when it comes to our collective safety. It will be interesting to see how many objects we as amateurs are able to track and see - CCD guys will definitely have a leg up to us visual guys.

Glad to see this topic idea has been approved.
Hope to see many posting and tons of information, ideas and tips for those who may "need" an excuse to move up a notch or 3 or 4 with new and bigger equipment.
("Saving the world" sounds wonderful, but will it work on the wife?)

I agree, this is a needed forum. I hope it attracts some of the key personalities in this field. I just got done inviting Richard Kowalski to the group. He is the first person to discover a NEO that fell to Earth and was recovered as a meteorite - Almahata Sitta.
Hopefully he drops in (no pun intended)..... :)

Hey all,
Mike Gilmer suggested I join the site. Not sure how much time I'll have to read and contribute, but discussions about NEOs are always good.
I'd suggest people seriously interested in NEOs, especially if you are interested in observing them, take a look at my Minor Planet Mailing List http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mpml/
I started it back in 1997 when I was an amateur just starting out observing asteroids and comets. Most of the professionals and amateurs actively involved in this field can be found there.
I don't mean to direct people there instead of here. Just pointing it out to anyone who isn't aware of it.

Hello,
Am I glad to see this forum taking shape. Still a novice, however I have been attempting to track satellites across the night sky with my 10 inch Dob. This is an endeavor that can be both challenging and fun. I would like some ideas or opinions concerning the most ideal equipment to use for viewing Near Earth Objects.
Thank you and clear skies to all,
Bill
