Software Bisque announced the new Paramount ME portable at the AIC conference yesterday. It weighs 45 lbs. with a 90 lb. payload.
I wasn't there but Astrophoto Insight has some slide photos on their website.
I hope it's an affordable option for us less $$$ folks!!!

The bullet points in those photos indicate they finished the design in July 2009 and are currently machining the first prototypes. So it will be a long time before anyone can buy one of these.

Hi, This is indeed tremendous news for me.
Just the right payload for my visual requirements - and if the eventual price is comparably less than the current model, but retains the same SB build and software quality - this is sooooo a done deal for me!
That said, I have already set in motion my funding plans for the current model, but will wait 'n see.
Excellent! Thanks for the the heads up!

skybsd

I chatted with them at their booth, and they are shooting for around $8k. The basic mechanical design is done, but they haven't worked out all the electronics yet, so it'll probably be a fair while before they'll be available.

Hi Alex, Thanks for that information.
The price looks logical - based on pricing / payload
ME Portable / Current Pricing (listed) Ratio: 55% ME Portable / Current Payload (listed) Ratio: 60%
Nothing on SB's site yet - I'll keep checking around and will aim to contact a couple of dealers to find out more about an intended release date.
Thanks!

Hi,
Sooo.., I've been in touch with SB's European reseller..,
Based on what I've learnt - its not looking good. Here's what they stated:
"We do NOT expect there to be a big difference in price to the current PME."
Will email SB direct..,

That sort of removes the incentive to choose it over the bigger one...

In all fairness the developers are pulling double duty working on Duke Nuke'em Forever and SkyX Pro.
