I have decided to purchase my first pair of binoculars solely for astronomical purposes (mostly from our roof/terrace) Soon I will have a ZRS 10x43. Based on limited research so far I have become interested in purchasing an Orion Mini Giant 15x63, which will be used with a tripod. My budget is around $300. Would this be a wise purchase or do you have other suggestions?

I don't have the 15's but I have the 9x63s and I find them to be excellent quality binoculars. Other than my Fujinons they are best binoculars I have been able to find for astronomy use. They product pinpoint stars, which are perfectly round when going out of focus in either direction. I find the level of edge distortion to be more than acceptable and better than anything else I have personally tried in this price range.
You might want to shop around for a better price, I paid $215 at my local telescope store.

Thanks Mark and Lane for your feedback as it was very helpful.
I did a little more research and I will be purchasing either the Orion Mini Giant 15x63 or for between $60-$100 less an Oberwerk 15x60 or 15x70. In a review by EDZ he said that the optical quality of the Orion and Oberwerk were relatively similar with perhaps a slight edge going to the Mini Giant while the Orion was significantly more expensive albeit lighter weight.
So, my question now is does anybody else feel the same way about the above mentioned binoculars?

I think the Oberwerk 60 mm LW's may have effective aperture of ~52 mm. I have a pair of Oberwerk 12X60 with 5.7 deg FOV and a pair of Leupold Olympic 12X50 roofs with 4.8 deg FOV. The Lepupold can see very slightly deeper than the Overwerk 12X60. Resolution, color fidelity and overall quality of view is much better in the Leupold.
I consider the Oberwerk as entry level 60 mm binos. Pretty good for a pair selling for just over $100. KennyJ has a review of the 12X60 model in the mini review section. 15X should be the same bino with shorter focal length EPs

Has anybody measured the actual effective aperture of the 15x63 Mini Giants?

First and foremost observing love: naked eye.
Second, binoculars.
Last but not least, telescopes.
And I sometimes dabble with cameras.
