Has anyone had experience with both of these scopes, and, if so, any thoughts on which is better overall or advantages/disadvantages of each?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on what the use is. Visual vs AF. Tak will be shorter OTA and lighter as well. Longer FL on SV and is triplet with less 'colour'. More accessories needed with Tak.

I haven't owned either, so I won't offer any opinions that would require first-hand knowledge. Even so, there are some differences you can find just from comparing specifications and forums like this one:- The Tak is smaller
- The Tak is lighter
- The Stellarvue is a triplet with the resulting pros and cons that we have all been debating for years; by contrast, the Tak is, of course, a doublet
- The Tak uses Fluorite crystal as its abnormal dispersion element, while the Stellarvue uses either Fluorite or fluoro-crown glass (Ohara FPL-53) depending on which trim level you are looking at; some believe Fluorite has an almost magical effect on image quality
- The Stellarvue has a choice of two different two-speed Crayford focusers while the Tak comes with a 2" rack and pinion; I can highly recommend the 2" Feathertouch from personal experience on other telescopes
- It is well documented that the Tak can come out of collimation if knocked around too much--consider how you will be transporting the scope and whether it will ever be shipped
Anything else I might add would require that I actually look through the scopes you are asking about
-------------------- - Jared Willson
- TMB 152 f/8 Apochromat
- Fluorostar FLT-110 w/ TEC optics
- Stellarvue SV80S
- Astro-Physics Mach1 GTO
- Takahashi Teegul SP Mount
- STL-11000
