The Pan 35 already has a lot of eye relief. In my case, it was too much. I use a Televue eyeguard extender which makes it useable. I've barlowed it and didn't like it. Eye relief increased and I didn't like the extra weight of a 2" barlow plus the Pan 35. If you wear glasses, this may not be an issue.

35mm pan with the eyeguard extender it works perfect!
I will try and take off the extender and see if i like it as much.
I bought it with the extender on it already on the used market!
Using a barlow with 35mm i never heard to much about that combo. Might mean it doesn't work all that great!

No to the first question and yes to the second.
You need either a 2x Powermate or a 2x Big Barlow with Barlow Interface. See http://www.televue.com/engine/page.asp?ID=24 and http://www.televue.com/engine/page.asp?ID=42 and http://www.televue.com/engine/page.asp?ID=41
The Powermate allows the eyepiece to operate as designed with no vignetting and no increase in eye relief. The Tele Vue Barlow Interface in effect converts the Tele Vue 2x Big Barlow into a Tele Vue 2x Powermate.

Without the eyeguard extender, I had blackouts viewing thru the 35Pan, unless my eye was positioned just so. With the extender, no blackouts, viewing very easy & comfortable.

BTW; another member had posted a few days ago, that the extender is discontinued. So if you want one, better get it while you can still find them. That might be why the TV link to it, not longer is valid.

I just got my new 35mm Pan. and love it. Yes, it does have a lot of ER but I found that the extender was still a little short on making it truly comfortable to view with. I made a taller one thats the cats meow. Instead of 8mm extra height, its 11mm. Tom likes it too...

I am fortunate enough to not need the extender, I have the skill to use the eyepiece without it. I find that having a 35mm and 27mm Panoptic provide the very best wide angle viewing I have ever had. I cannot use the 31 Nagler because of constant blackouts. I have used my Panoptics against a wide variety of other eyepieces in their focal length range and have never seen one that makes me want to give up my Panoptics. The 35mm Pan and a 2 inch UHC filter in the TV 102 gives a wonderful view of the North American nebula, the Veil, Lagoon and Trifid, California and Sword of Orion. Without the filter the Double Cluster, M24 or Pleiades are magnificent.
I know it is not exactly the double magnification that you seek, but I also really like my 22mm Panoptic. Just a thought.
Enjoy; Steve Coe
