Greetings,

This issue was discussed many times last winter. All my Televue EP's were loose in the o-ring of the turret and gave non collimated images. Purchase some aluminum foil tape and wrap around the Televue EP until the EP is a snug, centered fit in the o-ring. If this does not solve your problem, then try contacting Garrett.

If this works, then the down side is the wrapped EP's may not fit in the turret of anything else.

I didn't start this thread as a result of loose EPs causing collimation issues. It was started for just the opposite - my OEM EPs fit snug as do my extra flat EPs after having wrapped the very top of the barrel with a single layer of teflon tape. So even with snug and properly seated EPs I still see overlapping images when initially looking into the bino - and the shorter FL the EPs, the longer it take my slow brain to merge the images.

What I discovered one night when I failed to seat the EP in one focuser all the way, was that the EP now had some slop, and if I pushed the EP in a certain direction and looked into the bino, I would see an single image immediately, regardless of the EP focal length.

So again, the the perceived miscollimation is not the result of loose EPs. And I should that the o-rings in the focuser barrels are in place as they should be.

Out of curiosity, is the goop around the prism tilt screws some kind of cement that's there to "lock" the screw settings?

Thanks

Rich V

DB,

Your right, however, since then we have not heard much about the GBT 100/45. I will say this, the TV Ethos 8" does fit properly as well as all of my Mead Super 4000 Plossl's.

Rich V.,

I set up the GBT tonight and had a very nice view of Orion from my third floor kitchen window. The intent was to checking collimation issues with my GBT. Tonight, I used two 20mm Mead Super Plossl's and the sky for the most part was clear. Did I have collimation issues - nooope and the views were some of the best I have ever had with these binoculars. M42 was sharp with three stars showing and a slight haze showing. I was able to resolve the double in Struve 747 with no problem - they were sharp and clear. Sirius came up just as my wife Gerry returned from her night out with the gals - what a jewel sharp and clear. My goal is to find M41 before I hit the sack.

All in all, I have no collimation issues and I moved the focusers all the way out and all the way in and had no double star images.

I hope this helps MBT and Michael as well as everyone else.

As a parting note - over the past week I have been using a SCT Celestron 8" which has collimation issues - purchased third hand, which I'm resolving with help from EDZ and others on another thread. My point here is, when you go from one eye at 90 degrees to two eyes at 45 what a difference - two eyes will always be better than one in my book.

Bill, getting great views of the heavens through your binoculars beats looking into them anytime! The bottom line is enjoying the view.

Enjoy,

Rich V

Rich V.

Your right and I only hope that MTB and Michael are able to get a quick response to their issues. Once again QC continues to pop up and I hope forums like this will improve this issue ASAP.

Thank you, Rich D. And you are certainly right, Rich D.

Cheers,
