I totally agree!! That is a "WOW!" image. I'm guessing it's a two part image, whole disk superimposed over the part that exposes the proms?

Thanks very much Wes for sharing the notice and for the nice comments. It's a special treat to have amateur solar system images chosen for APOD - we have some pretty good space missions to compete with... I think I've had 8 images selected over the past several years.

Hi Paul,
Yes, the image does combine two different exposures. Thanks for the comment - I post sun pictures on the solar forum... now with the sun down in the power lines it's time to get back to the moon and planets.
