Tube Ideas for a 10"f9 Mirror new
      #3432915 - 11/06/09 01:24 PM

I have a 10"f9 full thickness mirror and a very heavy GEM that I will use.
Can someone save me time and point me in the right direction on the tube?

Would a Sonotube be ok? do they sell these 8ft. long? or fiberglass or a Hastings irrigation tube? or a truss type tube?

I want to put it on my GEM. I have a 10"f6 on it now and it handles it like it wasn't there and I must have tracking. I know I will need a longer ladder.

Just not sure what to use for such a long tube. I think my first choice would be the Hastings aluminum tube but It will be expensive.

I could build a tube similar to this:

Here's a split-truss design that should scale up well to yours:

I roughly based my 12.5 f/6.3 on his previous version. It's very sturdy. This kind conveniently breaks down to a long but light unit plus a small but heavy unit, without having to assemble and disassemble all the poles and stuff.

Not bad! thanks jg3!

I like this one, much simpler than the Cave design I have linked above.

I'm leaning towards a truss to keep cost and weight down.
Also I was given information on a off-axis Chief that looks interesting.
