Reworking on oldie..Dust storm and V. Marineris 05 new
      #3432242 - 11/06/09 01:19 AM

Cloudy nights, no new data to work on, so I'm going back over some old "interesting" images to see if what I've learned in the past 8 years might help some of my older stuff. It did with this one. Neat image because I can say imaged Valles Marineris from earth. But while re-doing it, those round patchy "marshmallow" clouds over the N. pole caught my attention. I've never seen anything similar and would like to know if any of you have or can provide pics.

You probably already looked at this, but on the alpo website there is indeed a dust sturm visible at that location:

(especially the images by Dr. P. Clay Sherrod, Donald Parker en Jim Phillips)

Looks very cool !

Oh yea, I knew about the dust storm, i'm just wondering about those clouds in the N. Polar Region. I've never seen anything like them on Mars. The "puffy cotton" balls. You can see them in red pretty well.

Joel, what does your new processing routine involve vs. your original routine? Also, would you post the original so we can see the difference?

(I juuuust did my first ever virtualdub & ninox run and I am hoping that the image quality is superior to just using registax, which is how I presume you were doing your 2005 image processing)

Here is the original. Not too much of a differnce, because I didnt' have the orignal data, just the old JPG to work off of. Since I took the image, I've learned about better noise removal techniques, deconvolution and better color management I'm going to put together a "How I process page. But its pretty much sorting and stacking by K3ccd, save as a FIT file, Registax5 to stack those FIT files, light wavelets, shapening/tweaking in PSP8, deonvolution in in Maxin DL, then back to PSP8 for final tweaks, noise removal etc
