Hi,
I got my 15x70's out for the first time in a long cloudy while and made this sketch of The Red Planet a day after it passed in front of the Beehive. Only the wide field of binoculars would have worked for this observation.

A very nice sketch, I want to try to do that one-day. I have a tough enough time just getting out and stargazing. It was cloudy for me at the beginning of Nov so I couldn’t see Mars with the Beehive. It’s also very nice that you dedicated it to your friend Eric, Michael.

Thank you , folks.
Daniel, white on black has its advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, you are recording exactly what you see. When sketching lunar features, it really helps to keep up with the rapidly advancing terminator. On the minus side, I have problems rendering the vibrant colors I see because the black paper seems to swallow the color.
Bill, thank you for your kind words. It has been unusually cloudy here too and very frustrating. Definitely try sketching your observations--it doesn't have to be art and it is the best way to improve your observing skills.
