Hi there,
I have finally processed a bicolor version of the Flaming Star Nebula. It's only 20x10 min Ha and 15x12min OIII through Astrodon NB filters. Done with Atik 314L+ and Borg 77EDII objective.
hope you'll like it

Super detail on the image - great job. This object tends to have a bit of reflection color in it but does not come out in the bicolor processing. I guess it is not well captured by a narrowband OIII. Did you have much signal level in the nebula on the OIII?

thank you all guys.
Yes Jim, you ARE RIGHT :-) The OIII 3nm filter obviously doesn't get almost any signal on 500.4nm. That's the issue with reflection nebulas. But I have (at least) finally got some 4 hours of SII from last week so I try to make HST palette version, when I get some time...

that's a beautiful image i love the texture and color
having done a lot of bicolor i'm wondering if Ha/blue would be better for emission nebulae with a reflection component.
i'd bet most of the Oiii signal is really the broad band blue reflection component. since i still get LP gradients in the Oiii filter, i'm considering broad band blue

bill_w: I have looked again at my OIII calibrated and stacked data (15x12min) and what I can see is only something very faint in the center of the image, no details at all, just a subtle "cloudlet" and I have to stretch the image at max. That's 3nm wide band.
In the summer I tried M20 - Trifid with Ha and OIII and also there wasn't anything of the reflection nebula so I added simple "Blue" data (over blue filter). But you have to limit the exposition to a fraction so as the stars are not bloated.
Well, I have been imaging for about a year and half now so I am really beginner :-)

very nice image...as Jim said with bi color the detail really comes out.....I do miss the very delicate blue reflection area. I think adding the blue data might be beneficial.

DanB: I can do long expositions for about 1 year, it was last year in November when I got guidescope and a cheap webcam (that I'm still using).
You can see my gallery (from most recent to my first attempts) at http://astrofotky.cz/~Konihlav
thank you guys I am happy you liked it :-)
